We go back to my roots, talking about Native American myths and legends, and how they associate with today’s society, and some of the pitfalls that we have fallen into because we have forgotten them. Ready to have your Eyes Opened?

The following are the show notes used to record this episode.  They are here for your reference and convenience.

If you are one of those individuals who received the flu vaccine this season and still got the flu, chances are good you’ve got company.

Federal officials this week said this season’s flu vaccine, already acknowledged to be not highly effective, is performing worse than earlier estimated.

The vaccine is only 18 percent effective against the dominant H3N2 strain of the flu in circulation, according to HealthDay, a National Institutes of Health online news publication. That’s down from a predicted effectiveness level of around 23 percent, estimated in mid-January.

It is well known that light is capable of acting like a particle as well as a wave. However, these have always been viewed as completely separate forms, not embodying both at once. Quantum mechanics states that light should have both attributes simultaneously, but that phenomenon has never been imaged directly until now. A team of researchers has finally been able to photograph the quantum wave-particle duality of light, and they have described the work in an open access paper published in Nature Communications. This will help researchers better understand the fundamental nature of light, and could even help assist the development of quantum computing and a number of other technologies.

The researchers created a standing wave of light after blasting a metal wire with UV light. They then shot electrons at the wave, trying to disturb individual photons. When the two particles interacted, the change in energy made the photon slow down or speed up, depending on how the connection occurred. The interaction was able to be seen with a high-powered microscope.

Because the wave is really a succession of distinct particles, the researchers were able to view the standing wave, and the photons that were disturbed were still seen as individuals.. Thus, witnessing light’s wave-particle duality became possible for the first time. Once the photons were disturbed, the researchers were then able to image the quantum change in energy, as can be seen above.

“This experiment demonstrates that, for the first time ever, we can film quantum mechanics – and its paradoxical nature – directly,” senior author Fabrizio Carbone from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland said in a press release. “Being able to image and control quantum phenomena at the nanometer scale like this opens up a new route towards quantum computing.”

A small plane piloted by Harrison Ford has crash-landed at an L.A. golf course … but we’re told the actor has survived.

TMZ has learned … Ford was piloting what appears to be a vintage 2-seater fighter plane Thursday … when something went wrong and he crashed into Penmar golf course in Venice, CA.

We’re told Ford suffered multiple gashes to his head and was bleeding. Two doctors who happened to be at the golf course rushed over to treat the actor.

Emergency personnel arrived to the scene a short time later. Ford was transported to a nearby hospital.

72-year-old Ford is a longtime aviator — piloting planes and helicopters — and has crashed multiple times in the past.

We are military contractors working directly with the US Marine Corps assisting them with their immersive simulation training program.

Currently, we are looking for role players of Ukrainian and/or Russian ethnicity and language skills. Need MEN ranging 18-65 years of age.

This is temporary, part time, on-call work based on need and availability.

At the moment, we are staffing for an upcoming training to take place on:

March 29-31, 2015.

The scheduled hours will vary from 8-12 hours per working day.

Creation Myths…

Serpent stories from around the world… most view them as being something evil or dark, but there are some that look at them as being something the opposite.

Coyote is very important to many NA legends…

Coyote trickster… rabbit… agents of chaos

out of chaos…

The idea of order out of chaos follows the idea of the medicine wheel.

The contrarians…  and their lack in this society.
Heyókȟa are thought of as being backwards-forwards, upside-down, or contrary in nature. It was manifest by doing things backwards or unconventionally — riding a horse backwards, wearing clothes inside-out, or speaking in a backwards language. For example, if food were scarce, a heyókȟa would sit around and complain about how full he was; during a baking hot heat wave a heyókȟa would shiver with cold and put on gloves and cover himself with a thick blanket. Similarly, when it is freezing he will wander around naked complaining that it is too hot. A unique example is the famous heyókȟa sacred clown called “the Straighten-Outer”:
In addition, sacred clowns serve an important role in shaping tribal codes. Heyókȟa’s don’t seem to care about taboos, rules, regulations, social norms, or boundaries. Paradoxically, however, it is by violating these norms and taboos that they help to define the accepted boundaries, rules, and societal guidelines for ethical and moral behavior. This is because they are the only ones who can ask “Why?” about sensitive topics and employ satire to question the specialists and carriers of sacred knowledge or those in positions of power and authority. Their role is to penetrate deception, turn over rocks, and create a deeper awareness.[citation needed]
For people who are as poor as us, who have lost everything, who had to endure so much death and sadness, laughter is a precious gift. When we were dying like flies from white man’s disease, when we were driven into reservations, when the government rations did not arrive and we were starving, watching the pranks and capers of Heyókȟa were a blessing.
I guess you could say that I am one of those…
Indians were responsible for inspiring the Constitution…
the U.S. Constitution owes many of its “novel” notions on democractic government to the Iroquois Confederacy. They quote from Senate resolution 331, from the 100th congress in 1988 (with the link to prove it) in which the Senate acknowledges, “the confederation of the original thirteen colonies into one republic was influenced…by the Iroquois Confederacy, as were many of the democratic principles which were incorporated into the constitution itself.”

The Iroquois Confederacy was a powerful  confederation of Native American Indians which was originally composed of 5 tribes consisting of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca people.

The Great Law of Peace was the basis of the Iroquois Confederacy Constitution which was brought to the tribes by the prophet Deganawida and his spokesman, Hiawatha.

Within many tribes, the women would be the ones to decide who the chief would be, and the chief as responsible for the day to day decisions about the tribe.

However, at any time that he failed his duties, he xould be removed by a vote of the women.

What a great way to keep things balanced.
