My Thoughts on This Issue
I’ll just add these mostly forgotten and very misunderstood verses in to this whole gay marriage debate, yes?
Romans 1:28-32 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Most of those that profess Christianity try to use these verses to describe what they see non-Christians doing and using it to lay blame upon them, and heap up the sin counts against them in their self-righteousness and heartlessness.
However, those verses were directly aimed at those in the churches that Paul saw were acting in contrariness to the word of God.
Funny how the things that are in those verses are EXACTLY how we see a lot of professing Christians acting today.
There’s a good reason a lot of people are turned off by and turned away from Christianity. It is because the representatives of the faith do not display the changes in their lives that God said should take place in those that are covered by the blood of Christ, infilled with the Holy Spirit.
ALL things fall within Gods plan. Even this. This should be a perfect time to be an EXAMPLE for those that are without God and without Faith. To be a lesson for the masses and to show them that being a Christian means being a different person from ALL of the rest.
Instead, they wear the appearance of being more of the same, with no changes in their life to show that they are, indeed, the chosen of God and looking forward to the moment they have been fulfilled.
Perhaps this should be a moment when Christians need to re-examine their relationship to God and to discover if they are, indeed, following his Plan, or, if in their human-ness, they are acting contrary to what Christ taught about being a witness.
Perhaps He is looking down upon all of you right now and asking, “Why are you not using this opportunity I have given you to show them how their lives could be better with Me?”
Sugary drinks cause 184,000 deaths worldwide annually, including 25,000 deaths in the United States, according to a new study.
The finding — a revised estimate of numbers first presented at a scientific meeting in 2013 — represents a tally of deaths from diabetes, heart disease and cancer that scientists say can be directly attributed to the consumption of sweetened sodas, fruit drinks, sports/energy drinks and iced teas.
The numbers imply that sugary drinks can cause as many deaths annually as the flu.
“It should be a global priority to substantially reduce or eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages from the diet,” said Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, senior author of the study and dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University in Massachusetts. [7 Foods You Can Overdose On]
There is evidence that sugary drinks contribute to obesity and that obesity contributes to people’s risk of these diseases, Mozaffarian said. Previous studies found that obesity-related diseases cause more than 17 million deaths per year.
For this latest study, led by Gitanjali Singh, an assistant professor at Tufts, researchers attempted to tease out the contribution that sugary drinks make to this global burden of obesity-related deaths. They calculated that there are 133,000 deaths yearly from type 2 diabetes; 45,000 deaths from cardiovascular disease; and 6,450 deaths from cancer.
The study is based on a complex statistical analysis of country-specific dietary habits and causes of death in more than 50 countries, coupled with information on the availability of sugar on the world market. The researchers’ definition of sugary drinks included beverages sweetened with cane sugar, beet sugar and high-fructose corn syrup.
“Among the 20 countries with the highest estimated sugar-sweetened beverage-related deaths, at least eight were in Latin America and the Caribbean, reflecting the high intakes in that region of the world,” Singh said.
