There are consequences to this whole minimum wage hike thing? Say it isn’t so!

Not too long ago, 77 percent of San Franciscans voted to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour over the course of four years. The first gradual increase began on May 1^st, and businesses and consumers are already dealing with the consequences.

Back in May, we told you about the progressive business owner who realized that his store, Comix Experience, would need to take in an additional $80,000 a year to cover the costs of the $15 minimum wage.

Now, Hillary’s favorite burrito joint is adjusting things to survive. Investors Business Daily reports that Chipotle raised prices in San Francisco “as much as 14.4%, after the city raised its minimum wage by 14%, according to an analyst.”

William Blair’s Sharon Zackfia said in a client note Monday that the popular Mexican fast-casual chain jacked up prices across the board by 10.5% on average in San Francisco, with beef entree prices up 14.4%, large soda up 11.1%, chips up 10.3%, and water up 10%.

Water. Water is up 10% everybody.

“We believe the outsized San Francisco price hike was likely because of increased minimum wages (which rose from $10.74 per hour to $12.25 on May 1) as well as scheduled minimum wage increases in future years,” Zackfia said in the report.

 

We know this is true. Chris Arnold, a spokesman for Chipotle, said that the company raised the prices “in part to offset higher labor costs.” That’s what happens when you force companies to #RaiseTheWage. This week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that New York’s controversial gun-control law, the SAFE Act, is constitutional. The SAFE Act greatly restricts what types of guns can be owned and substantially limits how and when guns can be transferred to private citizens.

According to the Times Union:

In a decision released Monday, a three-judge panel concluded that the “core provisions” of the expanded ban on assault weapons in both states “do not violate the Second Amendment” because they are “substantially related to the achievement of an important governmental interest” — in this case public safety and crime reduction — and are therefore subject to intermediate and not strict court scrutiny.

The decision largely upheld a December 2013 ruling by federal Judge William Skretny of New York’s Western District that eliminated the SAFE Act’s demand that gun owners could load no more than seven rounds in their firearms — a requirement the state quickly backed away from after it became evident that seven-round magazines were unavailable.

 

Of course, the second-highest court in the land upholding the law paves the way for other states, and even the federal government, to pass similar laws without too much fear of a court challenge.

In a 53-46 vote, the Senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
The Statement of Purpose from the Senate Bill reads: “To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.” The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S. and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry, now get this, on all private guns and ammo.
Astonishingly, 46 out of our 100 United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.
