The US government will continue its military intervention in Iraq and Syria indefinitely while ramping up its “counterterrorism” operations both overseas and within the US, President Barack Obama made clear in public remarks at the Pentagon Monday.

Flanked by a phalanx of military officials and commanders, Obama outlined a perspective of endless war in Iraq, Syria and beyond in a speech delivered after closed-door meetings with top military officials.

Nearly a year after its launch, Operation “Inherent Resolve,” originally presented to the American people as a temporary and limited action, has become an open-ended war stretching across large parts of Iraq and Syria.

The Iraq-Syria war, which has already involved some 5,000 combat sorties by US and allied war planes and the return to Iraq of thousands of US troops, is part of what Obama called a “generational struggle” against “violent extremism,” to be waged without any timetable or geographical limitation.

“This will not be quick. This is a long-term campaign,” Obama said.

Obama’s remarks came in the immediate wake of some of the most intense bombing of the entire campaign, with US and allied war planes launching some 40 strikes against targets throughout the Iraq-Syria war theater over the weekend, including heavy strikes on ISIS’s self-proclaimed capital at Raqqa in Syria, as well as strikes against the Syrian cities of Kobani and Hasakah and against the Iraqi cities of Habbaniya, Mosul, Makmur, Sinjar and Tal Afar.

The comments also come amid recent indications that Washington is ramping up the deployment of US troops and military resources throughout the region. Obama announced just weeks ago that the Pentagon will send an additional 450 ground troops to Iraq as part of plans to establish a new US base and training camp in Anbar province.

One day later, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, told reporters that the Pentagon was preparing for additional deployments to Iraq, possibly involving thousands more troops and the establishment of a network of new US bases across the country.

http://patriotrising.com/2015/07/07/a-third-of-americans-do-not-know-what-the-first-amendment-is/

One third of Americans have no idea what The First Amendment to the Bill of Rights is, according to a study undertaken by the Newseum Institute.

The interactive museum of news and journalism, located in Washington D.C., found that 33 percent of Americans couldn’t name one of the five freedoms and rights that the First Amendment guarantees.

They are, of course, the freedoms of Speech, Religion, Press, and the rights to Petition and Assembly.

The question Newseum put to over 1000 Americans throughout all 48 contiguous states was hardly confusing or misleading, it simply asked “As you may know, the First Amendment is part of the U.S. Constitution. Can you name any of the specific rights that are guaranteed by the First Amendment?”

Shockingly, fewer than one fifth were able to identify Freedom of Religion as a right under the First, while even fewer, only 10 percent, were able to identify Freedom of the Press and Right to Assembly as guarantees under the Amendment.

Only a paltry TWO PERCENT were able to identify the Right to Petition as a right under the First Amendment.

Fifty seven percent correctly identified Freedom of Speech, yet that is still a very low majority, and represents a huge drop from 68 percent in 2014.

The First Amendment reads:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or abridging the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

After reciting this to respondents, the surveyors asked Americans whether they agree or disagree that “The First Amendment goes too far in the rights in guarantees.”

Almost one fifth, 19 percent, were of the opinion that the First Amendment goes too far!

However, while you may wonder who on earth would think the First Amendment goes too far, it is pertinent to note that 13 years ago, in 2002, Newseum recorded that FOURTY-NINE PERCENT said The First Amendment guarantees too many rights. So, at least there has been an improvement on that front for Americans who value their freedoms.

Newseum notes that spikes in those who agreed the First goes too far came after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001 and the Boston bombing in 2013, highlighting that perceived terror threats have a significant effect on Americans’ confidence in The Bill Of Rights.

While preparing for an interview with Wolf Richter, Wolf Street, Dave Kranzler, Investment Research Dynamics, informed me that he had received an email at approximately 11:18 am Central time, reporting the suspension of American Silver Eagles.

I then reported exactly what was known:

According Bill Holter, the US Mint has suspended sales of Silver Eagles.

Since that time we have confirmed the primary dealers are out of luck and rapidly running out of American Silver Eagles, again.

This ties in with what we have been reporting for several weeks–that a silver shortage was predicted for September/October. If you recall last year the US Mint sold out during October/November–the US Mint has not been able to produce Silver Eagles for a continous 12 month stretch for the past two calendar years. The last continuous 12 month run of sales was 2013!! How do the prices continually fall when the product continually sells out? Can you say, manipulation? I knew you could!

from Silver Doctors

The US Mint has just notified Authorized Dealers that it is ENTIRELY SOLD OUT of Silver Eagles, and WILL NOT TAKE FURTHER ORDERS UNTIL AUGUST 2015!

This morning we warned that a massive jump in silver premiums was imminent as premiums on 90% silver had tripled in the past 48 hours.

Less than 3 hours later, that has been confirmed as the US Mint has just SOLD OUT ENTIRELY of all Silver Eagles and suspended sales for at least 3 weeks.

The Mint also advised when sales resume Silver Eagles will once again be on allocation.

Wholesale premiums instantly jumped 50% on the news…for the few authorized dealers who had any coins remaining in inventory.

We will keep you updated as the silver shortage progresses.

http://12160.info/profiles/blogs/82-shot-15-dead-last-weekend-in-gun-free-chicago

Inside the city limits of Chicago, not a single gun shop can be found — they’ve been outlawed. With is nearly 3 million residents, Chicago has the most stringent gun laws in the nation.

Gun laws were so strict, in fact, that in 2010, the US Supreme Court interveined saying the law was going to far. However, city lawmakers were able to “keep the ban” without “legally keeping the ban.”

The ban on assault rifles, a high-capacity magazine ban, and nowhere to purchase ammo makes Chicago one of the toughest places in the country to obtain a serviceable and firing weapon, legally.

With these strict laws, how on earth are there still guns in Chicago?

Gun violence in Chicago over the weekend reached near war zone proportions with 82 people being shot between 4 p.m. Thursday and 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. 15 of these shootings were fatal. Tragically, even a 7-year-old child’s life was taken by one of these bullets.

On Monday, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy blamed the shootings on the fact that people were getting too many guns.

“It all comes down to guns. Too many guns coming in, too little punishment going out,” said McCarthy.

But how is this possible since guns are basically banned in Chicago? Is the law failing to stop criminals from breaking it? How could that be?

Of course, there are two sides to this debacle. Gun rights advocates state the obvious when they say that restricting the possession of guns only keeps guns out of the hands of people who actually listen to the law.

“The gun laws in Chicago only restrict the law-abiding citizens and they’ve essentially made the citizens prey,” said Richard A. Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association.

But on the other side, the gun controllers would like to see even stricter laws across the nation to stop the flow of guns into Chicago.

“Chicago is like a house with two parents that may try to have good rules and do what they can, but it’s like you’ve got this single house sitting on a whole block where there’s anarchy,” said the Rev. Ira J. Acree, one among a group of pastors here who have marched and gathered signatures for an end to so much shooting. “Chicago is an argument for laws that are statewide or, better yet, national.”

Unfortunately, Acree’s sentiment is a popular notion among those who would take away the ability of people to defend themselves. The incredibly flawed logic behind the reverend’s statement and others like him is a common misconception.

Gun control advocates are saying that since this approach has miserably failed on a local level, if we just apply it to the entire nation, then it would somehow magically work.

http://www.blacklistednews.com/Three_Supreme_Court_Justices_have_been_Ruling_on_Cases_Involving_Companies_Whose_Stock_they_Own/44943/0/38/38/Y/M.html

The Supreme Court’s top justice and two associate justices have repeatedly ruled in cases involving companies in which they owned stock, according to a court watchdog group.

The organization Fix the Court says in a report (pdf) that Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justices Stephen Breyer and Samuel Alito have created potential conflicts of interest by participating in decisions that potentially affected their stock portfolio.

Fix the Court reviewed cases heard by the court between 2009 and 2013, and focused on 19 cases in which the three justices owned stock in companies that filed “friend of the court” or amicus curiae briefs. The report says that, in those cases, 68% of the time Roberts, Breyer and Alito sided with the companies in which they owned stock.

The other six justices were omitted from the study because they don’t own a significant amount of common stock in individual companies.

The lack of ethics, in these (alleged) Justices not recusing themselves from cases in which they had financial interests, is breathtakingly wrong.

But, as we are aware, in this country, the word “Justice” has thoroughly devolved into “Just-US”, meaning that people with power and money in this country believe that they are completely above the law, and that the law is only meant for the “little people”.

Yesterday the NZ media featured coverage of a new proposal that has been put forward by two “senior” academics from the University of Otago, who would like to see all young New Zealand females temporarily sterilised with long-acting chemical contraceptive implants.

In their ideal vision for the future of New Zealand young people, these academics would like temporary sterilisation to be the default policy that young girls would have to deliberately be opted out of if they didn’t want their new and still-developing fertility to be chemically shut down for months or years at a time.

No, this is not the plot of some dystopian novel or film, this really is a policy that a couple of NZ academics apparently now seriously consider to be a good idea.
